How much vanadium could these batteries potentially soak up? A lot.

“Market participants estimate around 9.25t of vanadium pentoxide is used in each MWh of vanadium storage battery,” Argus says.

“China is expected to install around 30-60GWh of new energy storage capacity by 2030, corresponding to 28,000-56,000 t/yr of extra demand for vanadium pentoxide during 2021-2030.”

and that's just for China. The rest of the world will hopefully soon catch on.  We read about many VRFB being tested at Universities etc, and this has been going on for years. Further testing should not be necessart as the flow battery is a proven technology and has been around for decades  There are hundred of V batteries installed throughout the world which are operating problem ...more

The US Dept of Energy also prefers the flow battery over lithium-ion. The DOE predicts that the demand for battery energy storage will top 300 GWh by 2030. https://cleantechnica.com/2021/03/22/trump-era-energy-storage-challenge-feeds-new-20-million-flow-battery-fire/
