well, adjusted eps was 13 cents last year as identified below, but this year's came in at 18 cents so below National's 22 cents and the consensus. biggest elephant in the room here imo would be tariffs: China's response to Trump's last round of tariffs back around 2018 was to hit their Agriculture- China loves hitting that segment as retaliation- pork imports to China were clobbered. so just as the North American pork markets finally get better aligned, they will likely get side swipped. I wouldn't be surprised if the spin off was affected if Trump moves fast on tariffing China.

National Bank is projecting third quarter EPS of .22 versus consensus at .24. Last year was .13. Analyst Vishal Shreedhar's expectation for third quarter EPS improvement reflects higher sales and gross margin rate expansion, partly offset by higher SG&A (increased advertising and promotion), and higher interest expense. He is also modeling third quarter gross margin expansion of 240 bps, reflecting an improvement in the pork complex, remaining benefits from MFI's major capital projects, and favourable mix (reduced sales into the lower margin commodities market). Maintain Outperform rating; price target is $28.
