Selling or keeping those shares?

Looks like I am not the only one selling, we're going from a 50/50 oil and gas company to another inefficient 50/50 oil and gas company...here's a different take on things:

to me, if you liked nal before, i cant see how you dont like the combined entity of nal/pgf more.  better financial flexibility, better growth, i'll argue better management, better dividend and I think better div sustainability.  Just because nal has laready cut their div doesn't mean they weren't closer to cutting it again if the nat.gas prices didn't pick up.   the ...more

I liked NAL but that was before it entered the "underperform" club. PGF is just a bigger NAL, that's how I see it anyways.... the sustainability of the dividend is possible because of the credit lines. Furthermore, the oil sands will require alot of cash until 2015...I'll pass on the associated risks.  Finally, I share your dissapointment with the offer we got so to each his ...more

I agree with mango that, if you were planning to hold NAE long-term, you might as well stick around and hold PGF. However, I was looking to sell my block of NAE, so when the take-out was announced I was happy to cash out.  Luckily I had averaged down to $7.50 over the past few months, so I made 10%.  But again, I just got lucky.  I know there are a lot of people ...more

yeah, the only thing is if you already hold both you have to make sure you're not going to be holding more pengrowth than you want when the deal closes (as another poster brought up earlier). also, today on bnn i heard someone give nal a $9 price target.  not expecting that to happen. funny that cibc also likes this deal considering nal was their top yield play.  I think cibc had a ...more
