Family facing eviction upset with Ronald McDonald House afte

A family says they will be evicted from a Ronald McDonald House facility in Vancouver because they are not vaccinated.

Austin Furgason, the father of a four-year-old being treated for cancer, received a letter from a senior director at Ronald McDonald House’s Heather Street location, outlining an updated COVID-19 vaccination policy. The charity that provides housing and support for families with children facing serious medical issues will soon require anyone staying at or visiting the BC & Yukon facilities to show proof of vaccination. The new mandate will be in effect by January 17.

“Because we don’t have the vaccine, you’re going to throw us (out) into the snow…. This is some type of crazy evil I have never seen in my life,” he said in a video he posted online.

He later added, “This isn’t about safety. This is coercing people to get a vaccine.”

However, in a statement to CityNews, Ronald McDonald House later said it would assist families in need of housing arrangements. It said social workers and family services team would help organize hotel stays or other options.

#BoycottMcDonalds started trending on Twitter after Furgason shared the video online of his reaction while confronting staff. Some applauded the charity’s decision for keeping at-risk patients safe, while others were outraged that families in need might be without a place to stay.

Other Ronald McDonald House facilities across Canada have not provided updates to their COVID vaccine policies as of yet.

Everyone, like it or not has a high chance of contracting the omicron virus . The question is will it be a cold or something worse ? The father should make every effort to ensure that he and the rest of his family will be in the best of health for a young person who very much needs them. As for McDonalds , I can think of many other good reasons to Boycott them !!

He is getting free assistance and won't follow the rules like everyone else and risks the health of everyone, especially his immunocompromised child, seriously?? McDonald is not throwing them out.  They are a guest and are expected to understand that their actions can affect others. If you don't want to be vaccinated then don't BUT if you are sharing a space with other immuno-compromised individuals, then you should take them into consideration as well. However, since you have opened up the conversation, I will bite. I will tell you exactly why the father of the boy is unvaccinated and is not vaccinating his family. There is no one less qualified than myself to give medical advice, but as a thinking person, I cannot see why anyone would rather take the greater risk of health problems with Covid, than the risk of health problems from the vaccine,  As the father in question has an immunocompromised son , he really needs to act now. I would say that I'm pretty resilient, but will admit that this whole thing is starting to get to me.  It's saddening, and it's horrifying.
