Pollard being Unionized is not a good thing for them....
Interesting that the Stockhouse didn't publish the new realease from the Teamsters announcing that Pollards US operations have voted to be "organized".
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/pollard-banknote-workers-join-teamsters-193000067.html
As far as I am concerned, unionization of the US (and I would assume the plague will now spread to Canada) creates a new dead weight loss for PBL and a loss of operational flexibility about how they run their business. The news of unionization is not good for Pollard.
Here are some of the negative implications that come to mind resulting from unionization:
1. Likely wage costs
2. Likely increased benefits costs
3. A dead weight loss as employees will now need to pay union dues
4. Loss of control over their workforce composition (eg. full time vs part time)
5. Added cost resulting from reduced ability to use temporary vs permanent labour
6. The new potential for labour disruption (strikes / walkout etc)
7. Reduced control over hiring
8. Seniority based employment which can impact new employee hiring
9.increased legal / regulatory / compliance costs
In my opinion, NOTHING good comes from unionization. It introduces a much more complex and expensive labour dynamic into Pollards operations. I don't know enough about their competitors but if they are not unionized, Pollard will suffer a loss in overall competitiveness.
This is NOT good news for PBL unfortunatey.
