Trying to understand

Even with all the positive news what is causing the slow fall in Reits? Many of the Reits are collecting more than 90% rents (some even 98%)
Is it algorithmic trading?
Is it short sellers?
Is it dumb/fearful investors selling?

its called oppunity cost , i just made 20k in GME and PLTR with 70k, how much would you need to make 20k in riocan in a day? atleast 2 million dolllar. with every tech stocks moving 20% a day why would you put your money in a stock that moves 1% a year? think about it

hence oppotunity cost, reits are slow, everything else are fast, you could have made more money like 2 to 10 times more buying anything than reits. there is nothing wrong with reits but people want to make more sooner than less later.

If your investing 70k its one thing, but if your investing millions, you dont buy stocks that go up and down 70% in one day lol !

If someone is holding Gamestop - they would be a fool to hold onto it much longer.  I think you can get a little of both. CPX - capital gain has been significant over the past 6 months and a nice divy to boot.

Hey BOH Totally agree with you on CPX. What a pleasant surpise for us. I had been going on about what a crappy companyy ALA was and someone suggested I look into CPX. I always thought of them as "coal" guys but was surprised to hear how quickly they had divested a good chunk of their coal and gotten into other parts of the utility biz. We sold all our ALA and bought CPX on Aug 31 at $29 ...more

Ive had 10k shares of CPX since $25 in May I wish i put everything into it and let it ride !!... Oh ya and about my trading prowess, why I got out of NIO PLUG etc, last trade I made on NIO, I lost $65,000 in an hour, pannicked and sold... 2 days later I would have been up 300k... I quit right then and there, had enough..

Same story here Gas... I got greedy and pumped a chunk into Xpeng near the peak... I lost a good chunk in a day but was a drop in the bucket compared to the gains this year. That was a quick little lesson and I'm avoiding those high fliers.

Hey Seek WOW!! You & Gas have some great trading stories. Very interesting stuff. I'm definitely a "bunter" type guy compared to a "swing for the fences". All the best   Sarge

Sarge nothing wrong with bunts... get the player on the base... slow and steady wins the game.
Comment by SargeX on Jan 26, 2021 6:44pm
Hey Seek I find the "bunting" and buy & hold approach to be totally stress-free. My wife & I generate about 2.5x the dividend income we need to cover all our expenses. I only do some short term trading on the side as I find it to be a lot of fun and treat it as a hobby.  These markets are sure suited to trading as nothing really makes much sense in the shirt term. Yeah my accountant is going to hate me this year... he itemizes every trade I do, he's likely going to end up with a book about an inch thick... it's okay nothing compares to the almost $600,000 I lost on inter pipeline !! Lol... but everything turned out pretty decent thankfully... anyway happy trading everyone !
Comment by SeekAlpha81 on Jan 26, 2021 4:34pm
Mine hates me as well... I try to put it all on a spreadsheet for him but he ends up redoing it all. I'm sure he wishes I employed a buy and hold strategy lol

Same here Sarge, I haven't the slightest idea how many trades I've done in the last 10 months but it's been a ton, having said that it got me out of trouble the same I'm sure as many here had due to last feb march, sitting in good shape now tho. Baby steps no rush, cheers!

glad I unignored you so I can comment.... GME went to $159 today... dropped to $61... Ya great way to make money, you want to play on that kind of volatility, eventually you will get burned big time.... GME has very little value and is pumped by wall steet bets.. The called themselves the "degenerates"... thats NOT investing, thats speculation.. You think I would put 2 million into ...more

Hey Gas Totally cool on your trading prowess. We sure have a different investing philosophy but I love to hear how well you've been doing since March. A big congrats!!! That's interesting on the amount of trading cash you limit yourself to especially given your portfolio size. As mentioned on the HR board, my wife & I sold all our BPY.UN because of the BAM take-over and trimmed 60 ...more
