Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) listed stocks with a market capitalization of $1 billion or more are typically added to the S&P/TSX Composite Index. This index is the headline benchmark for Canadian equities, representing approximately 95% of the Canadian market.
Key Inclusion Details:
  • Index: S&P/TSX Composite Index (^GSPTSE).
  • Market Cap & Weight: Eligible stocks generally need to represent a minimum weight of 0.05% of the index.
  • Liquidity & Price: Stocks must maintain a minimum volume-weighted average price (VWAP) of C$1 over three months and meet specific trading volume requirements.
  • Listings: Stocks must be listed on the TSX for at least six full calendar months prior to the quarterly review.
  • Smaller Caps: Those not qualifying for the Composite may be listed in the S&P/TSX SmallCap Index, while the largest companies (usually much higher than $1B) are in the S&P/TSX 60 Index.
The index is reviewed quarterly (March, June, September, and December)
