Hey S&F I never mind sharing and have done so on other SH boards. I've attached the list from a BPY post from Oct 20th below.  My wife & I are 100% TSX listed dividend income/growth stocks limited to 5 sectors - banks, utilities, midstream/pipelines, telcos, and REITs. We don't have any fixed income at all but do have a cash wedge that I also use for some short term trading. ...more

hey sarge, i own 13 of the companies you listed and i've owned them for long time. i'm sitting on large capital gains on most so that's why i play some etf's for a trade. i can get in and out of basically the same stuff with a higher book value to avoid the dreaded large taxable event. i'm trying to wean myself off dividend paying companies but it's hard to break old habits ...more

Hey Leo Very cool on all the commonality. I guess the difference in our approaches is that I plan on holding all of them forever unless something really dramatic changes with any given company. I continue to do quite a bit of short term trading but I'm doing it in our RRSP/RRIF to avoid the immediate tax consequences as well as avoiding the CRA frequent trader rules. Hey Red Thanks for the comments. It is interesting that Golombek is one of the guys that gave me comfort that day/short term trading was fine in an RRSP/RRIF. If you read down further in his article, you;l see this: (note the key is qualified investments. The CRA states the following in Folio 10 Registered Plans for Individuals: “…if an RRSP or RRIF were to engage in the business of day trading ...more

Hey SARGE__twas quite late when I Posted last night__so did only a very quickie GOOGLE to get at least a few relevant LINKS. BUT note that they both are already OutDated__I know FOR SURE that Golombek and others put out a number of articles in 2019__confirming that CRA indeed is going to go after Frequent Trading in ANY Registered Accounts__with special attention to large sized TFSA accounts As ...more
