Why I like Suncor

I am interested in capital appreciation rather than dividends due to tax issues .
Hence agree with the buyback strategy rather than dividends to increase shareholder value .
Again if share counts go too low, these guys can always go for stock splits as they did in 2000-2010 .

I'm always trying to learn. Tommy123: I'm hoping you will share your calculations that lead you to believe SU is worth $50 per share.  It would be awesome if you can offer some insight that the financial analysts are missing as it would be  would be beneficial for every SU shareholder if the street were to agree with your $50 target.  Currently, the street consensus for ...more

Here is a simple calc for everyone !  Break even = 30 USD per bbl  Present price = 75 USD per barrel FCF per share = 45 / .78 * 557000 * 365 / 1480000000 = 8.20 per share Share price = 6 * FCF = 49.20 Then add in refining and marketing 50$ is looking cheap IMO !! BTW my wife who spent her career working for the Quebec Health insurance is royally Teed off . Not for her own ...more

Tommy, not sure I fully agree with Dividends being a waste of time.  In my opinion, you need to keep pace with the market and the market is moving to higher dividend rates.  Without keeping pace this company will trade at a discount.   As you are likely aware, substantial funds have shifted from interest bearing products like GIC's and High Yield savings to equities as people ...more
