Guess I have a diiferent perspective - where is the best place to put my money to get the highest risk adjusted total return From this perspective it is not a question of whether the world will need oil in say 50 years.  Odds are that oil will still be needed.  The question is whether the growth in demand and the associated price of oil will match that of other industries where I can ...more

In my opinion, the main weakness in the ICE demise theory is with the lofty projections of rapid and continued EV adoption, where unfair and unsustainable temporary subsidies are put in place now to force widespread acceptance and get people out of their ICE vehicles.  First off, I mentioned before that I believe that a transportation transition to electric worldwide will not exceed the ...more

As much as I love to dump on the feds.  Alberta deregulation of the power industry is one of the main reasons the price of electricity is so high

which i blame squarely on NDP Premier Rachel Notley. Notley also embraced trudeau's carbon tax completely, introduced production curtailment which ruined the WCS-WTI differential., close down coal power plants regardless how efficient they are. Don't forget NDP jackmeat is helping trudeau to wreck canada on the national level

merimat....one of the contributing factors as to why my investment in CPX has almost doubled (not counting dividends) over the past 10 years.

The majority of oil stocks have risen greater than 400% in last 3 years but nothing wrong with 100% return in 10 years.

I found Integrity's post a little hard to believe so I checked the 10  year chart for SU. On Nov 17, 2013 (closest date on the Max chart), SU was trading $37.96.  That means SU is up 22% over ten years.  A quick check of TSLA shows that it is up 1849% over ten years.  Tesla is a world leader in future growth sectors including EV's, battery storage, and AI.  The ...more

LOL Obscure you must have reading challenges. I said the majority of Oil and NG stocks have seen increases of greater than 300% in the last 3 years not 10 years. 3 years is a very long stock hold for me. The first time I bought SU was in summer of 2020. I still hold those, but have bought and sold other SU shares in the last year. Most posters on this site imo are like me and don't hold long ...more

First long term hold on Integrity's list is TRP which is up about 15% in the last ten years.  He sure knows how to pick the winners! Of course many O&G stox have tripled in the last 3 years.  That was after many were down as much as 90% from pre-covid highs.  If most investors here are "like me" as you suggest, I'm in the wrong place.

I see you are having a fruitful "discussion" with Integrity. I gave up a while ago.  Surpised he didn't address you as "battery boy" which seems to be his favourite way of referring to you. All this talk of past performance is nothing short of meaningless.  I think the point of your posts and certainly mine is to look foward to determine the best place to put ...more

I worked for TRP and predecessors for 35 years and that is why I was a long term owner. When I retired 12 years ago I sold all my shares except 500 and I still hold those 500, but had many more for over 20 years. In the last few weeks I have bought TRP shares again, for the first time in 12 years. I have owned Tou shares for about 5 years and Cr shared for 4 years, I have bought and sold CNQ, TOU, ...more

Unfortunately, the population mass aren't that good in science or math, so they can be easily fooled by short term attractiveness of EV. If we do the energy and cost calculation just around EV (imagine a boundary around an EV), yes it is very cost attractive because we ignored outside cost and resources needed to supporti the cheap EV. If we do the energy and cost calculation around the earth  ...more

typo urrently i see EV as a toy, a novelty, run on battery. It has a niche or narrow application of couirse like in a city where charging outlets are accessible. It wouldn't replace the real work horse like tanker, train, airliners, mining heavy machineries nor even semi trucks. I think tesla made a blunder on making e-semi before they have their 25k EV. That's why we don't hear much ...more

As usual my friend, we agree to disagree.. I guess the proof in the pudding will be to see in 10 years (if I  am still alive...lol) as the legislation banning new car sales of ICEs is implented where the stock price of SU is compared to other alternatives and TSX.

in case so Experienced dunno, politicians do flip flop when the time come. You should know no countries will meet their emission target they set, right? Why? Coz policy makers won't be around in 20-40+ years but buying virtue votes now worth lying for.  To kick off the flip flop early to the green virtue bandwagon, here are some that fell off the bandwagon: - Rishi Sunak, Britain PM ...more
