that sound large in 2013 $. In retrospect, petro canada had sold off much more assets before SU came along. Those assets sold have helped grew many juniors and mid size companies to immense value, some assets were flipped several time more as values were added along the way.

Nobody back then had a realistic understanding of how the dynamics of fraccing would affect the natural gas business . In a nutshell, it was for the most part disasterous right up till Covid. Then a boom occcasioned by a dearth of drilling and subsequent retracement inspired by warm weather and political manipulation (Freeport LNG ) So now we find ourselves at the present conjuncture with a polar ...more

FYI Modern hydraulic fracturing — popularly known as petroleum well “fracking” — can trace its roots to April 1865, when Civil War Union veteran Lt. Col. Edward A. L. Roberts received the first of his many patents for an “exploding torpedo.” The geologic “fracking” technology commonly used in oilfields after the Civil War would be significantly enhanced when hydraulic fracturing arrived in 1949. ...more

Well, the industry has come a long way since the days of throwing a package of gunpowder down a well . Fracking has been constantly growing in effectiveness ever since. The real change was in switching from verical wells to horizontal wells , so I would still maintain that few investors realized back in 2013 , the combined effect of these innovations.Look , I once worked for Petcan and would be ...more

Also has a lot to do with getting the LNG plants built.  Sadly at that time big companies were pulling out left right and centre.  Were still a year and a half away from our *one* thats being built

I need to both agree and disagree with you.  Yes , the nat gas drillers piled up large quantities of pdp reserves and de-risked many future drilling locations. Combined with the infrastructure investments , this has made many nat gas companies worth multiples of their present market value . Yet, they have utterly failed to exploit their worth or otherwise reward their shareholders with the ...more

no worry, i was just nick picking on your fracking dynamic.statement. You finally said it right, it was advent of horizontal drilling rather than fracking dynamic that opened up the tight/shale stuffs.  SU knew about all that back in 2013, (US shale oil/gas were going gungho back in 2013, not a secret) that's why SU kept the unconventional deep basin.  Hz drilling works in ...more
