On 15 April 1973, workers from the El Teniente mining camp had ceased working, demanding higher wages. The strike lasted 76 days and cost the government severely in lost revenues. One of the strikers, Luis Bravo Morales, was shot dead in Rancagua city. On June 29, the Blindados No. 2 tank regiment under the command of Colonel Roberto Souper, attacked La Moneda, Chile's presidential palace. Instigated by the anti-Marxist militia Patria y Libertad, the armoured cavalry soldiers hoped other units would be inspired to join them. Instead, armed units led by generals Carlos Prats and Augusto Pinochet quickly put down the coup attempt.

To those that read the above post I shared last week and gave it some thought, and bought in, I say well done. To those like the poster "peep" who mocked my post for lack of substance and likely put me on ignore, sorry you missed out.

Bastilleday I didn’t know what side of Allende’s Chile socialism you were coming  down on. Against or for it. Assuming allende was a democratic socialist and not  moving to Castro Cuba’s more communist and phony elections, type socialism. But even that polarizing competition between far left and far right was done by  monarchists and their mercantailsts businesses

I used to listen to coast to coast just about every night. Also spent time in Cuba and not in a resort. You will not see anyone sleeping on the street in Cuba, health care can't be any worse than what we have here in Canada and all the criminals were shipped off to America [think scarface]. I almost got set up by Castros as they thought I was an American, they tested me to see if I would
