Baru Gold failed a 4th time to get their drill rig in place

Baru Gold failed a 4th time to get their drill rig in placeAfter some tense days with social unrest escalating due to police escorting two transporters that lifted the company's drill rig from Pananaru harbor to Salurang village the drill rig today was returned to the harbor as villagers had blocked the road to Bowone village and further to the mine site. Yesterday the situation got out of hand when police forces violently tried to resolve the blockade and threatened the villagers with imprisonment. However, due to mediation from the church and local leaders finally SSI campaigners were able to read the court rule of June 2nd by the provincial administrative court out to the police. The court order makes it very clear that the environmental permit is cancelled and for the moment, until further court rules will follow, is suspended. The court order also cites that all state officials and civic servants have to contribute to implement the order. Having heard this, an agreement was found between the local police and the people, that the drill rig will be escorted back to the harbor by SSI members to ensure a safe return of the equipment.
