I always look at these things like relationships. 
As well Canaccord does buy, sell, hold, and trade stocks for their own account as well as clients.. Maybe these were warrants ? 
You bring on an investment house and they will be there for guidance and advice.
But Research Capital, is the group that was buying the shares.
Research Capital most likely did some research and provided advice in regards to the purchase IMO.
As I said whaterver the case may be. I think the shares ending up with Reseach Capital shows they likely have faith in Criterium. And Reseach Capital is well regarde.
