Maybe the news about Federated Co-op building their renewable diesel plant in North Regina is fueling this. Not saying they are using Cielo tech, just saying the space (renewable diesel) is heating up.

Journalist is wrong to call it renewable diesel. It's biodiesel. Renewable diesel and biodiesel are not the same fuel. ... Biodiesel is a mono-alkyl ester produced via transesterification. Biodiesel meets ASTM D6751 and is approved for blending with petroleum diesel. Renewable diesel—Renewable diesel is a biomass-derived transportation fuel suitable for use in diesel engines. & ...more

p.s. biodiesel made from canola has no sulphur content. Renewable diesel creates sulphur which must be removed.

If it is bio diesel i am sure they will correct the statement.

on BNN. Renewable. They use technology to convert canola oil into an exact copy of a hydrocarbon.

Yeah, just got an email reply from Coop. Canala oil can be used to make renewable diesel or biodiesel. Another fact that damn Don Allen omitted. Maybe Ceilo should use canala oil instead of used motor oil to make slurry.

Thanks for the clarification about the differences between the 2 types of fuels,BUT many articles are calling it renewable diesel not biodiesel. Even yahoo finance has an article about it. Just saying. Not trying to pick a fight. Please correct me if I am wrong.

diesel made from canala oil is biodiesel, not renewable diesel but both are biofuels.  "The plant will crush 1.1 million tonnes of canola annually into oil and meal, with the oil supplying half of the feedstock needed for FCL's planned 15,000 barrel per day renewable diesel plant."
