LOOKS LIKE SAYONA

Northvolt was also drawn to the site, in McMasterville and Saint-Basile-le-Grand, Quebec, because of the region’s ample hydropower as well as mines that could eventually supply lithium and other raw materials, Mr. Cerruti said. A lithium mine near La Corne, Quebec, about 350 miles northwest of Montreal, began operations this year.

“We would like to have as much lithium as possible from Canada,” Mr. Cerruti said.

350 miles from northwest of Montreal is the NAL mine now run by Sayona

Agreed, definitely jumping to conclusions there. Does anyone know the capacity of the Sayona mine and if they have other supply deals in-place? Curious if they could even handle the full requirements once phase 1 is up and running in 2026... With all the battery factories slated to be built in Ontario and Quebec, CRE must be tagged for supply at some point, there just isn't the ...more

At the moment my questions are : Will Northvolt implement their own converter ? The NR said they chose that Quebec for the proximity of available hydro power and lithium mines. They do not say proximity of lithium ...more

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't most of Sayona's lithium tied up in an off take agreement with Piedmont, at a fairly low price compared to today's I believe, and Nemaska is part owned by livent who has contracts with Tesla among others. Nemaska did have a supply agreement with Northvolt but it was canceled during the restructuring. One of the beauties of CRE is that we have 100% ...more

That sounds correct. And Nemaska has already commited part of their production to Ford.

Even though a manufacturer would like to secure supplies with one major , usually you don't won't put all your eggs ins the same basket . You woukd like to have at least 3 with 60-30- 10 ratio if feasible. Even relyin to one specific region is risky. Hearthqake years ago in Chili disrupted supply for many companies. Not say geopoitics risks. So there should be some opportunity for ...more
