In the 2024 Canada budget
Budget 2024 plans to add $607.9 million to the incentives for the Zero-Emission Vehicles program. This program offers drivers up to $5,000 when purchasing or leasing a new electric vehicle.
Quebec province has reduced to 8k to 7k for new EV's but have added a 4K rebate for certain "used" EV's.
China will start exporting low price EV's to America and that is sort of good news since it is forcing american dealers (Tesla) to reduce their prices as well.
It makes you wonder how much profit Tesla was picking up a couple years ago since some of their models are selling for 10,000$ less and they are still making profit.
At the moment, CATL are selling semi solid state batteries with extra long range close to the 1000km mark.
I think that for North American couuntries the longer range is what is holding up adoption.
It is one thing to dish out 10K more to go electric, but at minus 20 c the promised 400 km range will only give you 250 km and since you will not want to drain the battery completely, let us say that you can safely ride 200 km only.
A 1000km (theoretical) range should permit you to do half of that for sure in any conditions. And for me, that is when I will by a full electric. At the moment I am going to stick with Hybrid and have ordered a Rav4 Prime to get the job done. I can get my city errands done on electric only and can drive all day with the gas engine.
Some China offers also extended the battery warranty to 10, 12 and 15 years. And that is reassuring when you look at resale price.
