Can't Count on Covid To Save Us

Unless Sag Aftra changes protocols we are not close to when testing is required. Here are the old protocols that expired May 11 2023, same day Biden called an end to the public health emergency.

Agreement Matches May 11 Date Federal Government is Ending its COVID Public Health Emergency.

Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), the Directors Guild of America (DGA), International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) and the Hollywood Basic Crafts, (Teamsters Local 399, IBEW Local 40, LiUNA! Local 724, OPCMIA Local 755 and UA Local 78), today announced the expiration of the COVID-19 Safety Agreement and its related protocols, effective May 11, 2023. This is the same date the Biden administration plans to let the coronavirus public health emergencency

Here are the protocols that bring on enhanced safety features like testing and other restrictions.

We are writing to advise you that SAG-AFTRA and The Joint Policy Committee, LLC have agreed to modify the escalation trigger for COVID-19 safety protocols, The September 1, 2022 amended agreement established a trigger for the implementation of stricter protocols. This trigger is now modified from eight (8) or more in 100,000 to fourteen (14) or more in 100,000 new Covid-19 hospital admissions over a 7-day interval.

So back in 2022 they raised the amount of hospitizations to 14 in 100,000 people. As of Nov 11 Toronto had 45 in hospital, lets call it 100 today for argument sake. Toronto has 2.7 million people which is around 4 per 100,000 in hospital....I didn't do Vancouver as there is no need to at this point.

We need a few things to happen by what I see......we need the public health emergency to be re-enacted, Sag Aftra changes the protocols they were using in the past or (and this is for our BB covid lovers) we need covid to get way way worse.

DM's only hope for a resumption of Covid testing would be a change in the type of statistics that they measure. Hospitalizations are way down because of the latent benefits of previous vaccinations and from partial immunity caused by previously infected individuals. BUT, people still get sick and stay home! If you look at Covid by measuring waste water you see it is about 150% more prevalent ...more

As I stated...they have to change the protocol of hospitalizations being the trigger as we aren't even close....14 per 100,000 is the current trigger. Waste water is by far the most useless measuring stick. Maybe positivity rates in the filming area could he switched to.....the first step is for sag aftra to re introduce the covid safety measures that they ended this past May....I'm ...more

Exactly. People still get sick and stay home. This can disrupt any business but the film industry probably even more so. It's not just the talent, but all of the not so easy to replace support staff. And film sets can be hot close quarter environments where Covid could really catch hold. Testing mitigates the risk of Covid transmission that could shut down a production for weeks, and possibly ...more
