One hundred new nuclear power reactors in the EU, of which ten in Sweden.
It is the Liberals' proposal to cover the Union's future electricity needs.
- This is needed to cope with climate change, says Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari.
Hundred is a good counting example. Europe needs a hundred new reactors to cope with climate change and all the electric industry we are building, says Romina Pourmokhtari.
- That would correspond to 15 percent of the EU's total electricity needs.
Ten new reactors - more specifically reactors equivalent to ten conventional nuclear power reactors - should be built in Sweden, the Liberals believe.
- I see that we need to be up to ten by 2045. But above all it is now, not least for my part as environment minister, about sweeping away all the obstacles raised against nuclear power by both the Center Party and the Green Party.
In connection with the Liberals launching their EU election campaign this spring, the party also proposed a "stop law" to prevent further European nuclear power plants being shut down.
- If we can get a capacity of 15 percent of nuclear power in the entire EU, i.e. 100 new reactors, then we can cope with the climate transition. But not otherwise, says Romina Pourmokhtari.
