Municipalities lack veto rights for mines

 MUNICIPALITIES LACK VETO RIGHTS FOR MINES Already today, many potential mining areas are classified as of national interest for mineral extraction. But the Swedish Environmental Code does not take climate considerations into account. The EU now wants to push member states to prioritize mines for roughly 30 minerals that are crucial for the green transition. Today, the EU uses 25 percent of the world's natural resources, but only 2-3 percent are mined here. By 2030, mining must increase to 10 percent according to the EU regulation. Among other things, it is about becoming more independent from China, which today dominates the world market Municipalities today do not have veto rights for mines. Questions about the establishment are handled by the Bergsstaten authority, the land and environmental courts and ultimately the government
