Mitsubishi: Li ion Battery Business - Lithium Energy Japan

Tiger, this brief info may provide insight to answering some of the inquiries as to Frontier's construction of Lithium chemical plant - refinery.

That is, Mitsubishi Corporation - Mitsubishi Chemical - Mitsubishi Motors

Helping to build a low-carbon society through the use of lithium-ion batteries

Lithium Energy Japan was established in 2007 by GS Yuasa Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation with the aim of developing, manufacturing and marketing lithium-ion batteries for automotive and industrial use.
Mass production began in 2009 for the Mitsubishi Motors "i-MiEV," the world's first mass-produced electric vehicle, and the company is also a supplier for the Mitsubishi Motors Eclipse Cross Plug-in Hybrid EV (PHEV). In the years since, the company has been helping to build a low-carbon society through the electrification of mobility and distributed power supplies.
In addition to supplying large electricity storage systems for installation at renewable energy facilities, such as the 720 MWh facility (one of the world's largest) installed by North Hokkaido Wind Energy Transmission Corporation alongside a large-scale wind farm, it also supplies electricity storage systems for residential use.

Lithium-ion battery business

Lithium-ion batteries use a chemical reaction in which lithium ions flow back and forth between the cathode and the anode, resulting in a battery that can be charged and discharged repeatedly. They are lighter and more compact than other rechargeable batteries, and have a long life, which has enabled them to spread into a variety of applications, including automotive electrification, large-scale electricity storage in the power generation sector, residential electricity storage, and a range of industrial applications (emergency-use power supplies for telecommunications base stations, commercial facilities and factories, as well as forklift trucks, construction machinery, railways and ships, etc.). Mitsubishi Corporation is developing a business to supply the optimal lithium-ion batteries for such applications.
