Q2 2020 financial statements

I am hoping someone can educate me....

per the August 27th press release from MDX, they had a 45 day extension to file their Q2 2020 financial statements...here is an excerpt from that press release

"The Company is continuing to work diligently and expeditiously towards filing the Interim Filings by no later than September 25, 2020"

So my question is: When a public company files their financial statements, do they in-turn also have to issue a press release on that same day or can they issue the press release afterward on another day?

I guess its best done late on a Friday (20:19:19) with no press release on an already extended release date and your news sux. Shoud we be surprised?
