The windfarm project is now proposed to be 40km further East on Tsimshian Territory. The reasons given were wind velocity increases as one moves from West to East and transmission cable costs/power loss through cables will be lower as a result.
Because Oceanic is still actively pursuing the project they must have some idea of making things come together. Whether tariff talk and energy security concerns speeds up development is unclear. This is in addition to the anticipated increased demand for electricity.
Will not see turbines from Haida Gwaii as maybe 60-km away from land. The project would be away from the culturally sensitive Rose Spit beach area. But the idea of providing electricity via undersea cable to Haida Gwaii remains.
Utilities south of the border are facing their own challenges BC Energy Minister says. As an result, strengthening interprovincal electricity trade appears to be a hot topic now. Maybe offshore wind will find its niche.
So now the upcoming annual and special meetings are next.
