From a trading perspective

I feel that the market is better off with shorts and longs both. More volatility. I don't short, not sure if I even can through TD Webroker, but it does add liquidity.

Not sure if TD Webroker would allow shorting with a regular margin account, but I do have Margin Short (CAD & USD) Accts with them that I haven't used in years. I haven't been in Sokoman very long, but do have high hopes for it. Good luck. Not to be taken as investment advice.

Sorry Yucatanman I also have been told by a former broker who says even if its on a sell order if its far above current price he will lend them out for shorts also told even if its close its up to his discretion if he believes it won't be sold at the ask but that most brokers won't lend if its too close.

Yes I mentioned that, seems to be a loose rule. I am also 65 yrs old and have been trading 30+ yrs, so my knowledge is somewhat outdated. I don't mind shorts, I believe it helps volatility and liquidity. Trading is trading and I enjoy it as a hobby retired now. Don't need the money, but does fund toys and vacations back to Canada each year. Thanks for your information. I appreciate it

I agree that shorts are necessary but not when there is no uptick rule and they can naked short at will. That means they can gobble up gains even if buying slows a bit. As it is now offshore Hedge funds loot the stock moarket and especially the mining sector for Billions of dollars yearly. Some of that cash would remain in Shareholders pockets if the uptick rule or any manner of slowing their ...more

100% agree with the uptick rule. Makes sense.

I know my opinion doesn't count, I would think shorting would be ok as long as it didn't exceed 10% of daily trades and if you shorted a stock you could not trade shares you owned to the downside in that stock thereby benefiting from your attempted manipulation. Just for the heck of it I will try to send this to OSC ( being a procrastinator I will try to follow through ).

On the contrary, I for one appreciate your opinion. You sound very level headed and intelligent. I applaud your efforts to get involved with the manipulation that has taken over the Tsx, CSE, etc. Worse than ever. I thought that the Vse was a sh$tshow back in the day, however today its basically online casino, the exchange should go public..lol

First, I just wanted to say I just bought SIC.V a few weeks ago, and enjoy reading the posts  from the knowledgeable people here. My first precious metals stock, and so happy to buy Canadian. A nice short article that I saved a little while ago, authored by Save Canadian Mining about this very topic of having some regulation on the extent to which shorts can pile on a stock that is on a ...more
