Very common procedure in Veterinary Practices

Electrocardiographyis one of the most commonly used pieces of monitoring equipment in veterinary practices. The ECG can determine the rate, rhythm and nature of cardiac depolarisation and repolarisation. It can also indicate changes in myocardial mass, conductivity between the heart and skin and the presence of metabolic abnormalitiesthat affect the heart.
The ECG detects the electrical activity of the heart through 3 electrodes. In small animals these electrodes are most commonly placed on the 2 forelimbs and the left hindlimb. An additional electrode may be placed on the right hindlimb. Resting ECGs in the horse are recorded using a base-apex lead - with negative (red) electrode placed over the jugular groove, the positive electrode (yellow) placed just behind the left elbow over the apex beat of the heart (B) and the earth electrode attached at a site remote to the heart. This produces an ECG with large complexes that are not significantly affected by movement artifact.

The electrodes are attached to the patient via ECG padscrocodile clips (more common in horses) and transcutaneous needles (rare). Hair should be clipped to improve contact between the ECG pad and the skin. Pads should be secured with tape and additional electrode gel or alcohol should be used to improve contact between the patient and electrodes. The electrodes are connected to the ECG machine by colour-coded cables.

Holy Crapp - like lambs to the slaughter. (At least we will now know if those lambs have properly functioning heart). With ALL the stories on the stock market your betting your money on a horse LOL. I have notice BNN has benn innundated with spider monkey open heart surgery questions and are completely ignoring Hydrogen, electric vehicles, the internet and SASS stocks, Zoom etc. Look around the ...more

Sunset brings up a good point!  Did you know that in heart valve replacement procedures Surgeons will use pig and cow heart valves as replacements?
Comment by SunsetGrill on Jan 12, 2021 2:18pm
Oh how people mislead - you are aware they use mechanical valves now.

It is a good day for VPT SP, why are you so butt hurt??

Yup, but you need to do your homework as they still do bovine and porcine valve replacements on a regular basis.
Comment by SunsetGrill on Jan 12, 2021 2:38pm
Yup, but you need to do your homework as the bovine and porcine valve replacements often need replacing -so they are on their way out.  My point was (which you obviously did not get) is that it is a ridiculous arguement - and what does it have to do with the price ot tea in China. Lets just see where this stock is in two weeks

Hey Sunset! It's nice to see that I got you to do a little research on the matter. The only thing that is missing from the little blurb you copied is that the folks that get mechanical valves are now taxes with taking blood thinners all their life like coumadin "warfarin" These thinners are not required long term for people with tissue valves.

Hey Retire! It's nice to see that I got you to do a little research on the matter. The only thing that is missing from the site you you copied is that the folks that get little piggy parts are now more susceptible to the valve wearing out and  failure killing them OR having to have it replaced and dieing on the table after a 2nd open heart surgery  You state "these thinners ...more

You wouldn't be so concerned about this P.O.S. with a somewhat unsuccessful and hard to believe CEO and spend time on this chat responding to people and commenting if you don't have an interest in it.  I would assume you would rather be watching BNN and spend your valuable time on other srock and boards you are invested in.  I wonder why you are "wasting time" ...more
