Question for ya Filoux, what do you think Biden (or any us prez for that matter) would do if Mexico decided to align with Russia ? I think you'd see a similar response jmho. I'm no sputnic fan but put yourself in his shoes if you thought Ukraine would join NATO I don't  trust Putin but it is quite plausible all he wants is a guarantee Ukraine won't be allowed to join NATO

I agree with yr point but I think however Putin is using this as an excuse to rebuild what was once the former USSR. As of this morning it looks like Belarus is already a done deal with no shots fired. My real concern is that there is a deal with China to irreversibly change the world Order whereby China could take over Taiwan simultaneously. With oil close to 100$ his strategic timing is perfect.

This may be a poor example but I still find similarities. Imagine if Quebec had won its last referendum and was now an independent state. 30 years later unrest grows within the anglophone and even francophone population that want to rejoin Canada, the unrest builds up and a nostalgic autocratic prime minister in Ottawa decides to bring back parts of Quebec into the Canadian confederation

As I write these lines it appears that more negotiations are being scheduled with the French and blinken for Thursday and Friday. So expect the markets to be flat at best. It appears Putin goal is to declare the Donetsk and Lumnsk region Russian controlled, like they did with Crimea...brick by brick like the Beatles song Back to the U.S.S.R..
