Guy Lawrence, the chief executive of Vodafone UK Ltd., is leading the race to take the top job at Rogers Communications Inc. (TSX: T.RCI.B, Stock Forum), according to a report by the Toronto Globe and Mail.

The report says Laurence earned a reputation as a turnaround specialist who made painful cuts but transformed Vodafone to compete with aggressive rivals.

He is best known for getting rid of Vodafone’s staid corporate culture, and is expected to succeed Rogers CEO Nadir Mohamed when he steps down in January, 2014.

Rogers shares rose 0.34% on Tuesday, leaving the company with a market cap of $17.6 billion, based on 402.3 million shares outstanding. The 52-week range is $52.75 and $39.10.
