Early gains among mining shares were somewhat offset by losses in energy stocks on weaker crude prices to cause Canada’s main stock index to trade flat for much of Tuesday, though in the waning moments of trading, a broad increase pushed the TSX higher by triple digits.

US markets also bounced back solidly from Wall Street’s worst trading day of the year in the prior session to move upward as stocks remain close to their all-time highs. IBM was up 2%, and following earnings reports from Netflix Inc. and Chipotle Mexican Grill, their shares also moved more than 2% higher.

Crude oil prices were up $0.90 to $67.32.
The price of gold was down 1.41 to $1,809.95.
In world markets, the Nikkei was down 614.92 points to 27,388.16, the Hang Seng was down 230.53 points to 27,259.25 the FTSE was up 36.74 points to 6,881.13 and the DAX was up 83.07 points to 15,216.27.
