Stockhouse @ the Bell: Mining Boost Couldn't Help TSX

Mining share gains tried to Canada’s main stock index higher on Friday, with hopes to deliver its fourth straight weekly gain on the back of a strong batch of corporate earnings ... but energy losses, combined with sagging performance among the financial, health care, and industrials sectors whittled away at the TSX's success.

The Dow and the S&P 500 saw record highs after Walt Disney Corp. beat estimates with its latest results. Meanwhile, signs of cooling inflation and a strong recovery in corporate earnings kept the indexes on track for a second straight week of gains.
