At the end of a rough week, Canada’s main stock index was up in Friday trading in a broad-based rally on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Dip buyers resurfaced at the end of a week marked by a surge in global volatility to push stocks higher. The NYSE FANG+ Index of giants such as Apple and Facebook halted a five-day slide, while all major groups in the S&P 500 advanced. Speculation this recovery could lose momentum rattled financial markets this week, just as central banks get ready to pare back their support measures.

The Canadian dollar traded for 77.81 cents US compared with 78.17 cents US on Thursday.
Crude oil prices were down $1.44 to $62.25.
The price of gold was up 2.80 to $1,781.98.
In world markets, the Nikkei was down 267.92 points to 27,013.25, the Hang Seng was down 466.61 points to 24,849.72 the FTSE was up 29.04 points to 7,087.90 and the DAX was up 42.23 points to 15,808.04.
