At the end of a rough week, Canada’s main stock index was up in Friday trading in a broad-based rally on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Dip buyers resurfaced at the end of a week marked by a surge in global volatility to push stocks higher. The NYSE FANG+ Index of giants such as Apple and Facebook halted a five-day slide, while all major groups in the S&P 500 advanced. Speculation this recovery could lose momentum rattled financial markets this week, just as central banks get ready to pare back their support measures.
