Gains in the energy and base metals sectors helped lift Canada’s main stock index higher in Tuesday trading. Utilities and Industrials were lower.

Wall Street's main indexes moved higher as a full US approval of a COVID-19 shot boosted shares of energy and travel-related companies. Drug delivery system developer N4 Pharma opened strong after announcing that it had made progress on two projects testing the applicability of its technology in the gene therapy and its COVID-19 vaccine spaces ... only to fall lower by close. Cruise operators including Carnival Corp rose about 1%, while online travel agencies and casino companies also rose. Gains in technology stocks pushed the Nasdaq to fresh highs. Economically sensitive cyclicals and smallcaps outperformed the broader market.

Crude oil prices were up $2.11 to $67.75.
The price of gold was up 1.00 to $1,805.79.
In world markets, the Nikkei was up 237.86 points to 27,732.10, the Hang Seng was up 618.33 points to 25,727.92 the FTSE was up 16.76 points to 7,125.78 and the DAX was up 53.06 points to 15,905.85.
