Canada's main stock index slipped on Monday from record highs in the previous session on weakness in healthcare stocks fuelled by cannabis producers. Leading declines on the healthcare sub-sector index were pot producers Tilray Inc and Canopy Growth Corp, both down 1.9% and 1.8%, respectively. The financial, mining, and tech sectors moved higher.

While an unyielding surge in oil prices ignited concerns about elevated inflation, Wall Street's main indexes fell as economic growth in China slowed. Hurt by power shortages and wobbles in the property sector, data showed China’s economy hit its slowest pace of growth in a year in Q3 2021.

The Canadian dollar traded for 80.85 cents US compared with 80.78 cents US on Friday.

Crude oil prices were up $0.21 to $82.49.

The price of gold was down 5.19 to $1,765.77.

In world markets, the Nikkei was down 43.17 points to 29,025.46, the Hang Seng was up 78.79 points to 25,409.75, the FTSE was down 30.20 points to 7,203.83, and the DAX was down 112.89 points to 15,474.47.
