According to research by London’s Imperial College published Wednesday, the risk of needing to stay in hospital for patients with the Omicron variant is 40 to 45% lower than for patients with the Delta variant. Investor optimism continues to grow now that the economic impact of the Omicron coronavirus variant could be less than first thought.

Word on Wallstreet

Wall Street's main indexes rose for a third straight session Thursday, in the wake of early data suggesting the Omicron variant of the coronavirus was less severe than originally feared, lifting the mood ahead of Christmas break.

The S&P 500 is well within striking distance of its intraday record high hit on November 22nd, riding broad-based gains and a boost from travel-related stocks, which tend to be highly sensitive to pandemic-related developments.
