Early gains in energy sector stocks helped Canada's main stock index rebound Thursday from a more than two-week low hit in the previous session, but hawkish signals from the U.S. Federal Reserve kept sentiment in check.
On the economic front, Canada posted a trade surplus of CDN$3.13 billion in November – the largest since September 2008 – with imports and exports both hitting record highs,
according to Statistics Canada.

Word on Wallstreet
Wall Street's worries over the possibility of a relatively fast pullback from stimulus by the U.S. Federal Reserve lingered Thursday, as some U.S. stocks sold off again and government bond yields kept marching higher. Adding to concerns was data from the U.S. Labor Department showing an increase in the number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits last week, and the Institute for Supply Management noting that non-manufacturing activity fell in December.
