Supported by gains in technology and consumer discretionary stocks, Canada’s main stock index rose on Wednesday, but weakness in commodity-linked shares limited the gains. This rebound in TSX stocks came after huge drops across the board from inflation fears. Hard-hit technology stocks rose 3.1% to snap their six-day losing streak, tracking gains in the US.

After a four-day losing streak, US markets overcame a red open to rally higher thanks to a drop in crude prices. This recent spike in energy prices followed Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The US, Canada, and Europe responded with various economic sanctions against Russia, and America has even banned Russian oil imports.

The price of gold was down 61.90 to $1,990.30.
In world markets, the Nikkei was down 73.42 points to 24,717.53, the Hang Seng was down 138.16 points to 20,627.71, the FTSE was up 226.61 points to 7,190.72, and the DAX was up 1,016.42 points to 13,847.93.
