Volatility that dogged Canada’s main stock index all week nearely had its last laugh on Friday. The TSX sustained early losses in the day, but turned things around by the market's close. Gains among the financial, energy, and health care sectors couldn’t overcome losses sustained in mining, tech, and industrials. The loonie kept pace with its two-month high scored in the previous session.

EXPLOSIVE GROWTH POTENTIAL

Investors continued to favour beaten-down growth stocks as Wall Street’s main indexes moved higher, while grappling with concerns about the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the possibility of bigger interest rate hikes. In six of the last eight sessions, US stocks have rallied as worries about escalating geopolitical tensions, higher oil prices and calls for aggressive action by the Federal Reserve to combat surging inflation were overshadowed by gains among megacap stocks and strong economic data.
