The TSX was the best performing index in North America on Friday. The energy sector led the gainers as oil bounced off a multi-month low.

U.S. markets ended the day flat as traders hoped to keep this month’s gains going. All three main averages saw weekly gains, marking their third consecutive positive week.

The Canadian dollar traded for 72.91 cents U.S., compared to 72.66 cents U.S. on Thursday.

U.S. crude futures traded $2.86 higher at $76.76 a barrel, and the Brent contract rose $3.08 to $80.50 a barrel.

The price of gold was down US$1.78 to US$ 1,980.65.

In world markets, the Nikkei was up 160.79 points to 33,585.20, the Hang Seng was down 378.63 points to 17,454.19 the FTSE was up 93.28 points to 7,504.25, and the DAX was up 132.55 points to 15,919.16.
