Stockhouse Canadian Small and Micro-cap Stock Report for Tuesday, August 2, 2011

TORONTO (SHfn) – Grand Portage Resources Ltd. (TSX: V.GPG, Stock Forum) jumped 17% to 31 cents Tuesday on news of assay results from its property at the Herbert Glacier gold project near Juneau, Alaska. The company said initial assays have returned numerous multi-ounce gold samples. Highlights include a 15.27-metre intercept of 1.084 ounces per tonne gold. The junior said it has now earned its 65% interest in the project under an agreement with Quaterra Resources Inc. (TSX: V.QTA, Stock Forum).

Taku Gold Corp. (TSX: V.TAK, Stock Forum), meanwhile, added 7.5% to 28.5 cents after the company said gold was encountered in soil samples extracted from the Wounded Moose property south of Dawson City, Yukon. Highlights include 746 ppb gold. Taku has just completed a geochemical survey that aimed to identify areas prospective for detailed soil geochemical, prospecting and sampling work.

Abcourt Mines Inc. (TSX: V.ABI, Stock Forum) rose 4.35% to 12 cents on drilling results from the Abcourt-Barvue property near Val d’Or, Que. The company said it continues to intersect excellent silver values in a program designed to augment and upgrade existing 43-101-compliant resources and reserves. Highlights include hole AB11-45, which coughed up 7.7 metres of 52.4 grams silver per tonne and 3% zinc.
