Mid-morning report: Stocks mixed on Italy's election deadlock

The TSX composite was lower, falling 17.14 points to 12,633.73 in mid-morning trading on Tuesday. The Dow was up 66.94 to 13,851.11, while NASDAQ lost 6.53 to 3,109.71.

Novagold Resources Inc. (TSX: T.NG, Stock Forum) says drilling has revealed a significant additional mineralized zone at the Galore Creek copper, gold and silver project in northwestern British Columbia. It rose 2.44% to $4.20 a share in mid-morning trading.

For a majority to govern in Italy one party would have to hold 158 seats, currently results indicate the centre-left would hold 119 seats and the centre-right would hold 117.

The price of gold gained US$22.11 to US$1,615.58 an ounce, while silver eased US$0.32 to U$29.35 an ounce.
