Mid-morning report: Stocks make gains

The TSX composite rose 36.16 points to 12,696.60 in mid-morning trading on Wednesday. The Dow was up 93.76 to 13,993.89, while NASDAQ gained 29.71 to 3,159.36.

Sears Canada Inc. (TSX: T.SCC, Stock Forum) reports it had $39.9 million of net earnings in the fourth quarter or 39 cents per share, little changed from the year-earlier period.

However, total revenue fell to just under $1.3 billion, down about $60 million from a year earlier. It was down 3.87% to $8.94 in mid-morning trading.

The price of gold fell US$10.49 to US$1,603.28 an ounce, while silver slipped US$0.32 to US$29.08 an ounce.
