RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Entergy Arkansas (NYSE:EAE, Stock Forum) says a fire has been contained at its nuclear plant in Russellville.

The utility says the transformer fire broke out Monday morning in a non-nuclear area of Arkansas Nuclear One.

Entergy says no injuries were reported and there are no threats to public safety.

The London Volunteer Fire Department says the blaze was under control by midmorning Monday.

Entergy says one of the plant's reactors is offline but that a second reactor remains operational.

Arkansas Nuclear One supplies 1,823 megawatts of power, which is the equivalent to about 30 per cent of the total energy demand of Arkansas.
