Newly-listed Chaparral Gold (T.CHL) up 11.4%: Canadian market movers

Here are the most active stocks on Wednesday mid-morning on the TSX and TSX Venture Exchange.

On Wednesday, the top TSX mover was Teranga Gold Corp. (TSX: T.TGZ, Stock Forum). The stock was up 3.2% and was trading at $0.64 on volume of 11.9 million.

The exploration company had no news to explain the high volume in trading.

Chaparral Gold Corp. (TSX: T.CHL, Stock Forum) was the second most active stock on the TSX. It gained 11.4% and was trading at $0.39 on volume of 4.5 million shares.

The new gold company was listed on the TSX for trading at the opening on Monday, December 30.

Petrodorado Energy Ltd. (TSX: V.PDQ, Stock Forum) was the volume leader on the TSX Venture Exchange. It rose 11.1% and was trading at $0.05 on volume of 3.3 million.

On January 6, the oil and gas explorer announced that casing has been set on the Verdal-2X exploration well in the Talora Block, located in the Upper Magdalena Basin of Colombia.

The Verdal-2X exploration well was spudded on Nov. 17, 2013, and targeted sands within the Hondita Formation, which lie above the Tetuan Formation source rock. The well reached the original target depth of 5,000 feet true vertical depth on November 28, and then was drilled to total depth of 6,102 feet true vertical depth on Dec. 1, 2013, with casing set at 6,204 feet measured depth.

The second most active stock on the TSX Venture was Alexander Energy Ltd. (TSX: V.ALX, Stock Forum). It climbed 1.3% and was trading at $0.78 after 2.9 million shares changed hands.

On January 14, the exploration and production company announced the completion of bought deal financing. The net proceeds of $77.5 million will be used to fund the corporation's ongoing exploration and development activities and for general corporate purposes.
