Loonie slips slightly ahead of TSX open

TORONTO _ The Canadian dollar was down ahead of the open of trading on North American stock markets.

The loonie traded at 81.07 cents US, down 0.12 of a U.S. cent from Monday's close.

The Dow Jones industrial futures were down 28 points at 17,768.0, the Nasdaq futures fell 13.2 points to 4,422.3, and the S&P 500 futures were unchanged at 2,084.0.

On the commodity markets, the July crude contract was up 15 cents at US$59.67 a barrel and the August gold contract fell $3.40 to US$1,182.40 an ounce.

The S&P/TSX composite index closed Monday at 14,756.05, after rising 14.90 points.
