BEL-TIBURON, California -- We ride our bicycles to the Belvedere Island summit where Ivanhoe Mines' top executive and his wife remodeled historic Locksley Hall.

It's a tough climb. The home just changed hands this week, according to real estate records filed here in Marin County.

Here is the marketing video for Locksley Hall.

Darlene and Robert Friedland's home is in the hands of an as yet publicly unknown buyer. It is on a historic ledger of USA properties -- one that ordinarily gives its owner reduced property taxes.

The Friedlands bought the property in 1995. Mr. Friedland invited me into the home several times -- once during a gathering for fund managers and other investors during the original Ivanhoe Mines' Mongolia era in the early 2000s.

Ms. Friedland was kind enough to open her home to a friend of a friend here in the county for a last look. She was suffering from a life threatening disease and often hiked up to the mansion.

The original sale story appeared here.

The local Marin newspaper picked up the news today. The home with panoramic views also was known as Blanding Hall.

I remember before one of my Mongolia tours with Mr. Friedland, watching from the porch the annual Angel Island to Tiburon swimming race in San Francisco Bay, a race I have been in several times.

This from the public record: Gordon Blanding, a wealthy San Francisco lawyer, bought the Belvedere landmark home built by C.O. Parry, first treasure of Belvedere which included 30 acres on the southern tip of Belvedere Island. He spent ten years to develop a large estate, which consisted six residences and several ancillary buildings. The Blandings lived full time in the main residence known as Locksley Hall after the 1906 earthquake destroyed their home in San Francisco.

The world renowned Hearst Castle architect Julia Morgan designed the bronze gates and lanterns on rusticated stone pillars at entry and in the garden. It frames the magnificent garden and the breathtaking views of San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Island and Bay.
