Click to enlargeAn innovative Canadian company with a long history in the skincare market is jumping into the competitive retail cannabis pool with intentions of making a big splash...internationally.

Ovation Science Inc. (C.OVAT, Forum) – newly listed on the Canadian Securities Exchange (CSE) – is a royalty-based, debt-free cannabis company focused on scientific R&D that is poised and positioned to develop and deliver state-of-the-art technology for enhanced delivery of cannabis to the skin.

The Company says it’s now primed and ready to capitalize on the growth of the exploding cannabis market with its patented skin delivery technology that’s disrupting the topical cannabis industry with its advanced science. Ovation says it will be providing its “pharmaceutical-grade technology to its global licensees resulting in high-quality, efficacious topical and transdermal products for consumers”.

Ovation Science commenced trading on the CSE on November 16th, 2018. Just over a year earlier, Ovation secured the licensing and assignment agreement from an R&D pharmaceutical company that develops enhanced, patent protected dermatology and healthcare products under which the Company acquired the exclusive worldwide rights to manufacture, distribute, market, sell, sublicense and promote products formulated with Invisicare® technology for hemp seed oil or cannabinoids. For retail investors, this represents big news moving forward into the public phase of the company.

Ovation is headed by President, CEO and Director Terry Howlett. In conversation with Stockhouse Editorial, Mr. Howlett detailed, in very interesting fashion, how Ovation has evolved since its formation to its present position as an emerging international player in the blossoming medicinal cannabis sector:

“20 years ago, we started a research and development company with a patented skin delivery technology. Then, someone approached about what we were doing in the cannabis space and I said ‘nothing’. They then said, ‘Why don’t you take the technology that you’ve got and apply it to both CBD and THC and make (similar) skincare products that you make right now. So, we set that all up and Ovation Science has now licensed exclusively, worldwide, the technology for cannabis.”

So what makes Ovation different from other companies in the retail cannabis space?

“All of our products are patented so no other company can deliver the results like we do. We have the exclusive worldwide rights to all cannabis and hemp seed oil products (hemp and marijuana) formulated with patented skin delivery technology Invisicare®.”

Terry Howlett, President, CEO, and Director, Ovation Science Inc.

Ovation Science: Why the applause?

The Company says they’re different from other infused product companies as they leverage 20-plus years of expertise in the pharmaceutical industry to develop highly effective, patent-protected products. And, the data shows they have the results to prove it.

Ovation’s Innovative Line of Skin Delivery Products

Ovation products have been developed with patented Invisicare skin delivery technology. Invisicare enhances how cannabinoids and other ingredients are delivered to and through the skin. The technology is patented in 11 countries including the USA, Canada, and internationally.

At the heart of the uniqueness is the Invisicare “polymer drug delivery system” which combines hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymers into stable complexes in water emulsions. Invisicare enhances how products function on the skin. It’s cool technology and even cooler science.

Invisicare is a polymer-based technology covered by patents and used in topical and transdermal delivery formulations. Products using Invisicare technology deliver greater amounts of cannabis and enhance cannabinoid penetration into the blood stream. The technology also forms a protective bond that holds ingredients on skin resisting rub-off and wash off, is non-occlusive, and allows for normal skin respiration and perspiration.

Ovation has now developed topical and transdermal creams and lotions made with CBD, THC, and hybrid combinations. The Company’s business model is to sublicense the technology to licensed businesses engaged in the production of cannabis or hemp seed oil products for specific approved markets and / or geographic areas.

Adding to its already-impressive portfolio of products, Ovation now has two partners in place to bring its products readily and safely to market – industry leader Canopy Growth Corporation in Canada and Lighthouse Strategies. Lighthouse – a lifestyle integrated cannabis marketing company with multiple brands including the just launched industry-leading BASKiN – has just launched its industry-leading BASK Extended Wellness Creams in Nevada and California.

Lighthouse has introduced the initial line of Ovation’s topical and transdermal products formulated with Invisicare. In doing so, the Company strove to develop safe, healthy, lifestyle-integrated treatments with the added benefit of accurate time-released dosing.

CBD: The Game-Changer in Medical Treatment for Chronic Pain and Disease

Cannabidiol has become a popular natural remedy used for many of today’s common ailments. Better known as CBD, it is one of the 104 chemical compounds known as cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant – Cannabis Sativa.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the main psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis and causes the sensation of getting “high” that’s often associated with marijuana. However, unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive.

This quality makes CBD an appealing option for those who are looking for relief from pain and other symptoms without the mind-altering effects of marijuana or certain pharmaceutical drugs.

It’s gaining momentum in the health and wellness world, with some scientific studies confirming it may help treat a variety of ailments like reducing pain and inflammation, anxiety, and depressions. Many of the other health benefits of CBD are:

  • acne reduction
  • neuroprotective properties
  • heart health benefits
  • substance abuse treatment
  • anti-tumor effects
  • and, diabetes prevention.

Lighthouse’s technology division, the San Diego-based Advocacy Research Center (ARC), is now engaged in the research and development of treatments in the areas of Parkinson's, oncology, pain management, PTSD, sleep disorders and seizure management through the application of medical CBD treatments.

Association with Cannabiniers

Ovation's national distribution of products and brands will be conducted through Cannabiniers – an established technology and brand management company and subsidiary of Lighthouse. The Company says Cannabiniers is revolutionizing the cannabis industry with its patented technologies and plans to “leverage its expertise in the local, regional and national cannabis markets to distribute Ovation's topical products in the United States.”

"We are excited to have Cannabiniers as a partner in the U.S. cannabis market. They are branding experts and have the vision and infrastructure to take Ovation's cannabis formulated products across the United States," says Ovation President Terry Howlett. "By Leveraging Cannabiniers branding strategies, we have the ability to enter these markets and provide consumers with an exceptional variety of topical and transdermal products backed by science and formulated with patented technology."

Licensed Agreement with Canopy Growth

In September 2017, a licensing agreement was signed with Canopy – one of the world’s largest cannabis companies – for the exclusive rights for Canada and right of first refusal on other countries outside of Canada and the U.S. where cannabis is government approved.

Canopy Growth President Mark Zekulin had this to say about the agreement:

"This agreement will have an immediate impact on our hemp product lines as this proven technology can be applied to a hemp oil product in today's regulatory environment. Moving forward, cannabis product diversity will be increasingly important, and this agreement prepares us for future product opportunities on that side of our business if and when the regulatory environment evolves."
