IMF: Synched Global Slowdown Across 90% of World in 2019

“Everyone loses in a trade war.”

The world economy is on the brink of a “synchronized global slowdown” that will see slower growth across 90% of the globe this year.

Those words began the opening the speech by International Monetary Fund Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva on Tuesday, on the state of the global economy ahead of the 2019 Annual IMF Meetings.

Escalating trade conflicts bared the brunt of her blame for the impending slowdown. The new leader of the 189-nation Fund said it could mean a loss of around $700 billion in output by the end of next year, which is 0.8% of the world’s GDP.

The latest IMF forecast will be released next week and is expected to show growth falling to its lowest point since the beginning of this decade.
