Feeding the world is the most basic enterprise in which every single country is engaged. As world population grows, and arable land incrementally disappears under developers’ backhoes, technology is incrementally introduced to ensure the yield curve per acre continues to rise.

Here are some companies engaged in Agricultural Technology (AgriTech), a combination of agriculture, horticulture, and aquaculture with the aim of improving yield, efficiency, and profitability through technology.

Nutrien Ltd (TSX: NTR) the world’s largest fertilizer producer by capacity, Nutrien produces the three main crop nutrients--nitrogen, potash, and phosphate--although its main focus is potash, where it is the global leader in installed capacity with roughly 20% share.

NTR shares are up 6% on the month and the company recently declared quarterly dividends of $0.46 per share. The company is also the largest agricultural retailer in the United States, selling fertilizers, crop chemicals, seeds, and services.

Ecolab Inc. (NYSE: ECL) produces and markets cleaning and sanitation products for the hospitality, healthcare, and industrial markets. The firm is the global market share leader in this category with a wide array of products and services, including dish and laundry washing systems, pest control, and infection control products. The company has a strong hold on the U.S. market and is looking to increase its profitability abroad. Ecolab also serves customers in water, manufacturing, and life sciences.

The global specialty chemicals and life sciences company generates most of its revenue from its water, food, and beverage, downstream, and paper businesses. ECL also has a smaller pest control and textile unit that accounts for less than 10% of its total revenue. ECL stock is up 3.7% on the month.

Clean Seed Capital Group Ltd. (TSX-V: CSX) produces patented agricultural technologies that turn solutions for modern agricultural problem into commercially viable products to fulfill new demand.

Clean Seed’s SMART Seeder MAX technologies are seeding tools that utilize the unique synergy of sophisticated electronic metering and intuitive software control putting row-by-row variable rate technology at the forefront of agricultural innovation. Our innovations create a new class of highly accurate seeding equipment designed specifically for today’s farmer.

CSX recently announced retail sale order commitments for most of its Model Year 2022 production run and is expecting to finalize these concurrent with signing up dealers.

A spin out from Pfizer Inc (NYSE: PFE), Zoetis Inc. (NYSE: ZTS) is the largest medicine and vaccine producer for animals and livestock in the world.

Zoetis sells anti-infectives, vaccines, parasiticides, diagnostics, and other health products for animals. The firm earns slightly less than half of total revenue from production animals (cattle, pigs, poultry, and so on), and more than half from companion animal (dogs, horses, cats) products make up the other half. Its U.S. business is heavily skewed toward companion animals, while its international business is slightly skewed toward production animals.

As consumers spend more and more money on their pets ZTS shareholders will likely see benefit and its stock price has risen just over 2% in a month.

Verde AgriTech PLC (TSX: NPK) shares have lost 10.5% since last month and have moved wildly.

Shareholders have been talking a lot about the company on Stockhouse’s Bullboards. One user, who stated that they owned NPK shares, explained that for the CEO to earn his potential performance bonus in 2021, the improved EBITDA would need to hit $3,159,300.
