American Equity Names William R. Kunkel as General Counsel

American Equity Investment Life Holding Company (NYSE: AEL), a leading underwriter of index and fixed rate annuities, announced today the appointment of William R. Kunkel as its Executive Vice President – Legal and General Counsel.

David J. Noble, Executive Chairman, and John M. Matovina, Chief Executive Officer and President, said, “We are delighted to announce Bill’s appointment as General Counsel. Mr. Kunkel was a partner in the Chicago office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP until his retirement in June 2012. He joined Skadden Arps in 1984 upon the founding of its Chicago office. His practice concentrated on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and other corporate governance and securities matters. He has represented public and private companies in many industries and has received numerous recognitions for his professional work. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Creighton University.
