8x8 Issued New Communications Patent by U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
8x8, Inc. (NASDAQ: EGHT), provider of innovative cloud-based
communications and computing solutions, today announced that it has been
awarded a new patent related to its communications technologies. On
April 16, 2013, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued United
States Patent number 8,422,986 entitled “Systems, Methods, Devices and
Arrangements for Emergency Call Services Using Non-traditional Endpoint
Devices.”
Traditional telephone lines are rapidly being supplemented and displaced
by a variety of new technologies, including cellular telephones and
Internet-based communications devices. Many of these technologies
provide a caller with new mobility options not available with a
traditional land-line telephone. Aspects of 8x8’s invention are directed
at addressing challenges to providing emergency services to a variety of
these voice and data applications, devices, systems and methods.
This patent relates to a variety of methods, systems, devices and
arrangements implemented for emergency call centers. According to one
such method, a location database is populated from a plurality of
endpoint devices and the location database determines locations for
nodes in a data transmission route from information received from the
endpoint devices. Emergency calls using these nodes are located using
the populated database.
Since its establishment in 1987, 8x8 has been awarded eighty-seven (87)
United States patents covering a variety of voice and video
communications, signaling, processing and storage technologies. 8x8’s
