NTT Communications to Address ITW 2013 Attendees on Global Wholesale Industry Trends
Company Consolidates its Leadership Position Among Top Wholesale
Providers Worldwide
NTT
Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the global data and IP
services arm of Fortune Global 500 telecom leader NTT (NYSE: NTT), today
announced its participation at the International
Telecoms Week (ITW) 2013 taking place in Chicago, May 13-15. ITW,
one of the most prominent global events for the wholesale
telecommunications community, brings together participants from around
the world and provides the opportunity to network with industry peers,
suppliers and customers.
Michael Wheeler, executive vice president of the NTT Communications
Global IP Network, will join industry leaders on the panel “Redefining
Wholesale Partnership Models for Growth and Agility” on Tuesday, May
14th, at 2 p.m. NTT Communications is in a unique position to
address global wholesale trends and opportunities, as the company was
recently named by leading market research firm Renesys
as one of the top 2012 wholesale IP providers worldwide. Two reports
from Renesys—the renowned Baker’s Dozen and the Wholesale
Rankings 2012—put NTT Communications in top spots of the global IP
transit market rankings.
More about NTT Communications in Renesys Rankings
The Baker’s
Dozen shows NTT Communications in a tight race for the No. 2 spot in
the ranking, closing in on the leader and widening the gap over its
nearest competitor. As Renesys notes, the data analyzed for this ranking
is related to IPv4 and shows global scores.
Data in the Wholesale Rankings 2012, published by Capacity
magazine in its Wholesale world 2013 yearbook and based on a metric
called “wholesale customer base score” from Renesys Market Intelligence,
indicates that NTT Communications has climbed from third place on the
global wholesale list at the end of 2011 to second at the end of 2012,
making substantial gains on the market leader. This yearbook report
notes that in Asia “operators failed to keep up” with NTT Com. It also
indicates that NTT Com experienced “a strong year of growth in Europe”
along with some of the strongest advances in North America. Ranking
authors predict that 2013 should be a year where NTT Communications
continues to establish itself as a major player in North America.
Naturally, this prediction has Michael Wheeler excited for the future.
“We’ve strived to grow our business in a number of key markets, so it’s
encouraging to know that our colleagues in the industry are recognizing
those efforts,” Wheeler said. “Looking forward, we believe that any
provider who can serve an increasingly interconnected world reliably
with leading-edge technology and superior customer service will
undoubtedly grow its customer base.”
Latin America is other area where NTT Com will make major strides in
2013; in late 2011 the
company rolled out a Point-of-Presence (PoP) in Sao Paulo, Brazil,
and since then it has worked with Internet service providers, large and
multinational enterprises and Internet-based businesses in the region to
connect them to international markets through its Tier-1
Global IP Network.
Still, authors of the Baker’s Dozen report note that they “see the
battle for global Internet dominance playing out in Asia,” and with most
of the world’s population and still relatively low Internet penetration,
this region will likely remain as the main battleground for wholesale IP
providers in the immediate future.
According to Wheeler, NTT Communications is poised to gain even more
ground in the competitive IP landscape. “We will continue to reinvest in
infrastructure all over the world, and drive towards acquiring more
customers in the months and years ahead,” he said.
